The truth about air filters is that changing them regularly greatly – in your home and your vehicle- improves efficiency.

A clean air filter can improve gas mileage by as much as 10%; nearly 25% of all cars could use a new air filter. Replacing a dirty air filter can save you 39 cents a gallon or take you 23 miles more on a typical tank of gas.

Air filter replacement can improve your car’s gas mileage

The steadily increasing gas prices have made life difficult for all of us. Fortunately, there are easy ways to improve your gas mileage! Something as simple as an air filter replacement can increase gas mileage. Air filters are not costly and are not even too complicated for a regular car owner to get their head around.

Understanding air filters

Similar to how an air purifier is an important component of your home, an air filter is a very important component of your vehicle. Essentially, an air filter makes sure that the air and fluids going into your engine are clean and free of debris that can impair performance or even cause damage to the engine!

New and clean air filters improve gas mileage

It has been scientifically proven that by simply replacing the air filter on a car, it’s possible to get at least 10% better gas mileage. That’s as good as saving 15 cents a gallon every time you fill up, all whilst helping to keep your engine in optimal condition. The reason for this is that there is plenty of clean air in the engine so the car doesn’t strain burning gas. Due to the efficiency, you spend less money than when the car is running on a dirty, old air filter.

Changing the air filter

The good thing about air filter replacement is that in most cars, it’s possible to do it on your own. When replacing the filters, make sure that you swap them with one designed for the make and model of your car. Car filters come in various shapes, designs and sizes. Most auto parts stores can help you find a filter for your exact make and model. Good auto parts stores will sell generic air filters that make good replacements. However, some stores, as well as brand specific parts suppliers, may be able to arrange for exact replacements for your car that should work even better.

When you open the hood of your car, make sure you can access your air filter. Some newer automobiles are making it difficult to reach the filter, so you may have to take your car to a dealership or a repair shop. Take off the air filter and check it. It should be fairly clean. If it’s not, get a replacement and put that on. These should be changed around every 12,000 miles or 12 months.

Take care of the air filter that takes care of your car to enjoy more miles on every gallon.
